Background

As per UNICEF, 1.2 million children are being trafficked every year. In India, per the 2011 National Census, the total number of child laborers is estimated to be at 4.35 million.

Having spent our entire lives in India, we realised that child trafficking finds its roots at a level right after a child is born. Hence, child abduction to be an alarming issue in today’s world. Children are stolen from hospitals and brought up in an environment which conditions them to think that exploitation is normal.

Overtime, our project developed to include tracking of not only babies but also psychiatric patients, geriatric patients and medical devices.

The goals of the project are:

1.      To develop a Real Time Locating System (RTLS) which will track the target in real time in the hospitals using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.

2.      To build an anti-theft feature which will send alert notifications if target is at an unusual location for prolonged time.

4.      To build an app calibrated with the RTLS which will show the location of the target in real time.
